Round Fandoghi Pistachio

Introduction of Round Fandoghi Pistachio Iranian Pistachio

The Round Fandoghi Pistachio is Iran's leading commercial pistachio variety, accounting for about 80% of the country's pistachio exports. This adaptable cultivar dominates the orchards of Rafsanjan City, where it occupies 60-70% of the growing area. The trees reach approximately 3 meters in height and feature a broad crown with moderate growth patterns.
Distinguished by its compact, round shape similar to a hazelnut, the Fandoghi is the smallest of Iranian pistachios. It's commercially available in sizes 28/30 and 30/32. This variety has gained widespread popularity in global markets due to its competitive pricing and versatility in food applications.
Its combination of affordability, nutritional value, and adaptability to various growing conditions has made the Fandoghi Pistachio a cornerstone of Iran's pistachio industry.

Cultivation of Iranian pistachio Round Fandoghi Pistachio

The Round Fandoghi Pistachio is primarily cultivated in central Iran, with major production centers in Kerman, Zarand, and parts of Khorasan, particularly around Rafsanjan in Kerman province. These distinctive trees, reaching 3 meters in height, are easily identified by their bright green leaves, which feature three to five leaflets averaging 16cm in length.
The growing cycle begins with a 10-11 day blooming period in early April. At harvest time in September, approximately 73% of the nuts naturally split open, while 18% remain closed - a higher proportion of closed shells compared to other Iranian varieties. While these closed nuts can be mechanically opened, this characteristic contributes to the Fandoghi's lower market price relative to other varieties.
