Long Akbari Pistachio
Introduction of long Akbari Iranian Pistachio
The Akbari Pistachio, often called "the long Pistachio" in global markets, is a premium Iranian delicacy known for its distinctive elongated kernel and refined flavor. This unique variety is primarily cultivated in Iran's warm central regions, particularly around Rafsanjan. Like other pistachios, it's rich in nutrients and offers numerous health benefits.
Cultivation and production of Iranian pistachio Akbari
The Akbari Pistachio is distinguished by its large size and dark skin. It comes in three size grades: 22/24, 20/22, and 18/20. Iran is the world's primary producer of this premium variety, which is harvested by hand during September and October.
Akbari Pistachios naturally split open and are available raw, roasted, or roasted with salt. Unlike most pistachios, the raw version is particularly popular due to its rich natural flavor.
When stored in a cool, dark place, Akbari Pistachios maintain their quality for up to two years. They command premium prices in both domestic Iranian and international markets, with a significant portion consumed within Iran. Globally, they're recognized as a distinctly Iranian product.
One notable characteristic is that Akbari Pistachios require a longer time on the tree before harvest compared to other varieties. While this contributes to their distinctive qualities, it also increases their susceptibility to aflatoxin—a factor closely monitored during quality control inspections.
